Decarbonization and Setting Science-Based Targets
Client:
Large U.S. based manufacturer with a transnational supply chain.
Opportunity:
With its Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions inventory complete and a goal of becoming one of the most sustainable brands in its industry, the company needed to set science-based targets to demonstrate credibility and leadership in the marketplace. Without the internal expertise and resources required, Uplift was engaged to guide the company through the process and enable SBTi validation.
Solution:
Uplift used the emissions data to calculate the science-based target trajectories, and after designing an internal stakeholder engagement plan, facilitated a client workshop to identify existing and potential decarbonization measures. Uplift then modeled the potential decarbonization measures to show how each could help the company progress against desired targets. After targets and decarbonization measures were finalized, Uplift prepared a detailed summary and final data visualizations supported the SBTi submission process.
Outcomes:
The client put in place a task force to oversee the execution of measures to support achieving their science-based targets.
By 2032, the client committed to reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and Scope 3 emissions by 30%.
The client committed to achieve net zero across all emissions scopes by 2050.
The client had a decarbonization plan in place to progress against its targets.
